Dog rescued from rubble 28 days after earthquake - after giving birth to puppies

Last month, a devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, killing at least 50,000 people. In the weeks that followed, search and rescue teams worked hard to find survivors.

And Dog and his three newborn puppies, an unlikely group of survivors who were rescued from the rubble almost a month after the earthquake.

Kadir Keihli has asked a rescue team to rescue his dog Sila, a 2.5-year-old Doberman, from the rubble in Hatay, Turkey, according to Reuters.

Rescuers were unable to enter the wreck, but local rescue team Meyako finally managed to get inside on Monday and search for the dog.
The video shows the moment rescuers burst through the wall and found Cilla in the basement. Luckily, it's still alive after 28 days.

But they got an even bigger surprise when they discovered that Shira wasn't alone. The dog gave birth to three puppies when trapped in the rubble!
The rescue team was stunned, and one rescue worker questioned aloud what the dog was eating and drinking.

Keefli said the dog likely survived a large bag of dog food left in the basement, according to Reuters. The mother lost weight but otherwise appeared to be unharmed and all dogs were treated.

"My dog will be out in a month. Thank God," Keefli said. Strangely enough, Cilla and her puppies weren't the only survivors of the disaster. A husky named Alex was also pulled from the rubble 22 days after his quake.

The earthquakes in Turkey and Syria were heartbreaking tragedies, with unimaginable death tolls, but stories like this can give people a glimmer of hope after this catastrophe.

What a miracle. We are so glad that Shira and her puppies survived and were rescued safely ❤️
