Service dog saves the day after owner has seizure in grocery store

For many people with medical conditions, a service dog can be a life-saving resource. These loyal companions have been specially trained to recognize and respond when their owners are in trouble.

A video that captures the moment a dog reacts after its owner has a seizure at the grocery store proves just how amazing these service animals are.

Amber Laudicina, a North Carolina native, suffered an unexpected seizure from chemotherapy-related brain damage after battling a brain tumor in 2010, according to WGHP.

Luckily, she has an 11-month-old companion dog named Koda who is trained to react when her seizures occur.

And one of those moments was captured on video. Amber shopped at her local Harris and Teeter supermarket. While walking the dog, Amber shows signs of her seizures, such as slight delays in her body language and staggering behavior.

Coda began to sense that something was wrong before her owner and barked in alarm. When Kohaku falls to the ground, Koda stays by her side to make sure nothing happens to her.

While Amber was in a "dazed state", Koda was able to notice that something was wrong. The employee noticed that something was wrong.

The associate then takes over and calls for emergency assistance while Koda patiently keeps watch. Amber wrote that although Coda was still in training and the leash hindered some of his duties, he still "did very well."

"He saved my life," Amber told WGHP. "He saved me from actually getting hurt and going to the hospital with a concussion or something like that."

In the video, Amber wrote that this was his first true emergency and that he "did a great job." "You can train and train for this, but you never know how far you've come before it actually happens," she wrote.

Amber also praised the actions of the supermarket workers, saying their response went above and beyond.

"Usually employees don't sit with me. They tend to just stand and wait for paramedics to arrive," Amber said.

"[The assistant manager] went all out," Amber told WXII. "Since she had a service dog and got really sick, I haven't seen anyone in a situation like hers."

According to the outlet, EMS came to check on Amber, but she didn't need to be hospitalized.

Amber also set up her GoFundMe page to raise money and thanked her for her efforts to save the manager's life.
