I think it's safe to say that most of us pet owners consider our animals the greatest, smartest, and most adorable animals to have ever walked the Earth. For some, that is precisely the case!
For others, it's definitely safe to say they're biased and blinded by their pure unconditional love. This doggo in particular though, just might be considered one of the smarter ones out there.
He goes by the name of Chico, and once he realized that he lost his human, he came to the conclusion that the best place for him to go, would be the police station. This dog quite literally turned himself in as missing!
A morning sometime last week, officers at the Odessa Police department in Texas discovered that they had an unexpected visitor. Chico, a polite but apparently lost doggo. He gently laid his paws across the front desk and let the department know about his lost status.
They clearly figured out he was a missing dog. Or more clearly he was missing his human. Sergeant Rusty Martin was one of the officers who came across Chico and stated that the dog did not seem to be distressed about his lost-ness. It almost seemed as if he went for a stroll instead, and decided he would pay the officers a little visit to do nothing more than bring them a little sunshine.
Could you imagine their surprise?!
The officers reported that they made sure that they made his day a little better in return for his visit. They said he got "lots of love and attention." and that "We were all excited to have him in the building." Martin also added that, "we had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him."
As much as the officers wanted to be sure he was returned to his rightful owners, that ended up being a more daunting task then they'd hoped it would be. Considering his ID tag had fallen off of his collar, they called animal control to check for a microchip instead.
But as soon as play time was over, Chico decided he was out-skees. He didn't wait around long enough for animal control to actually show up!
Lucky for everyone involved, Chico headed straight home. And they reported him home the following day.
"He ran out just as quick as he came in,” Sergeant Martin stated. “The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station.”
Maybe they should've hired him onto the K-9 unit?!
